So I don’t know about you guys but the men (namely the Dr and my dad) in my life are ridiculously hard to buy gifts for. Every time a birthday, anniversary, christmas etc rolls around, I try to get organised and start thinking about what amazing gift I am going to surprise them with. Then my stress levels increase, I can’t think of anything. Why can’t they just be into technology and then I could just get them the latest thingamabob of whatever’s going around, but they’re not.
Then the whole idea of being organised goes out the door, I’ve procrastinated, it’s now the day before d-day. Whaaa??
Then it happens, I just go back to my default gifts. Books for dad, clothes for the Dr. Boooorrrrriiiinnnngg!
Why is this on my mind right now? Well for those of you in Oz will know, for those from other parts, it’s Father’s day this weekend and guess what? Yup, I’m predicting a visit to the bookshop in the next 24 hours.
Help me!!! Anyone have any awesome ideas for the men who have everything?
Whilst I’ve got no cool present ideas, I do have a cool idea for the Father’s Day brunch I’m planning. Grapefruit brûlée. It’s turning a healthy breakfast dish into something a little more indulgent and spesh. Ruby grapefruits are gorgeously juicy at the moment and paired with a crunchy brûléed shell, it’s really quite something, and easy to do as well. To be honest, it’s not really a recipe, there is just two ingredients but with the risk of teaching you guys how to suck eggs, I’m going to tell you how I did it.
Oh and I just had to tell you spellcheck corrected the word ‘thingamabob’ when I spelt it incorrectly, nice one spellcheck.
what you need:
- 2 Grapefruits
- Demerara or Raw sugar
- sea salt/fleur de sel (optional)
what to do:
Cut grapefruits in half.
Sprinkle each half with an even layer of sugar.
Use a blowtorch to caramelise the sugar or if you don’t have a blow torch you could place it under the grill under the sugar bubbles and caramelises.
If you wish, sprinkle a touch of salt over grapefruit.
